Do You Love to Travel, But Hate To Roam?
Well, you’re not alone. Unless you are travelling for work, and the company is picking up your int’l roaming fees, chances are that you keep your mobile switched off while out of town.
But what’s the point of belonging to an international mobile society if you can’t use your phone? Here are a few ways to get around the insane fees:
1) Try out a service like Mo-Call World
MO-Call World promises to save you bundle on calls made and received while you’re traveling. They provide a virtual network that keeps your mobile calls off the roaming radar.
You’ll need to first register for an MO-Call account, and then download the MO-Call software to your phone. The whole procedure only takes a few minutes, and they even give you a free credit to try their service before you need to pay anything.
2) Buy a local pre-paid SIM card upon arrival at your destination.
This is easier to do in some destinations than others. But if you are going to be talking a lot, then it will be worth finding. Of course, you still have the problem of telling all your contacts what your temporary number is.
3) Use the Internet: Wifi Voip.
If your handset is wifi enabled, this is where VOIP (voice over the internet) services like Skype come to your rescue. This, of course, limits you to hotspots and to calling only people who are also on Skype.
So go nuts and jabber all about what a great time you are having hanging out it in wifi hotspots.
4) Keep your phone switched off.
After all, it’s not a holiday unless you can get away from it all.
Tell us what you do to beat the roaming fees? Are there any services you can recommend? Have you ever had any frustrations with buying a pre-paid SIM card in a foreign country?
Do you think there should be a pan-Asia cap on roaming fees, just as there is in Europe?
